
Dr Lyn Gallacher is a writer, an independent Producer at Squawk Studios, and a bookseller. Prior to that, Lyn spent many years working as a senior documentary-maker for ABC Radio National. Over almost three decades, Lyn produced features for many of the network’s major programs, including The History Listen, Earshot, Hindsight, 360 Documentaries, along with many of the major Arts and books programs. Her stories have won a variety of awards, including a European Union Award for Journalism 2010. She currently works in a vibrant small bookshop in Foster, called Atticus.
Lyn has two PhDs—her first was in Literature, and in 2023 she completed her second, this time in Geography. She’s also been a Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria, an Artist-in-residence at Bundanon, a judge for the Prime Minister’s Literary awards, and continues to be a presenter at Writers’ Festivals around the country. In 2012 she was a Harold White Fellow at the National Library of Australia where she undertook research into the important Australian literary figure, Nancy Keesing.
She lives in South Gippsland, near the southern tip of the Australian mainland, with partner and collaborator Michael Shirrefs, two colour-coordinated alpacas, and the occasional koala.
